Don’t Panic! – MileHiCon 42

Published by at 10:53 pm under Writing

This weekend is the 42nd annual Front Range regional SF convention, MileHiCon. It looks to be a blast, with GOHs Rachel Caine, Katherine Kurtz, Donato Giancola, and this year’s Hugo and Nebula winner, Paolo Bacigalupi. There will be the usual crowd of other authors and artists, including a number of fellow Codexians who I’m looking forward to meeting or seeing again.

As usual I’m on several panels or other events. My schedule looks to be as follows:

  • Friday: 8pm – Meet, Munch, Mingle (Autograph Alley)
  • Saturday: 11am – SF/F/H Authors You Should Be Reading; 8pm – Space Horrors Readings
  • Sunday: 1pm – Weird Physics; 3pm – Building the Ensemble.

Come on up and say hi!

How did it go, Al? Did you get to meet Eric James Stone? Wish I could have attended, since you’re so close. Alas, money and time were in too short supply.

Hey Brad. It was a lot of fun. Signed a few autographs, did a reading, sat on a bunch of panels. The Weird Physics panel (I’d suggested the topic but someone else was moderating) had an overflow crowd, very gratifying, and they all went well. Had dinner Friday with Eric James Stone, Matthew S. Rotundo, Aaron Hughes (yes, three WotF winners — Aaron’s in one of my writing groups, NCWW, originally founded by Ed Bryant, who was also there) and a few other local writers (big table). Heard Eric and Matt both do readings Saturday night.

I understand about time and money budgets — I was on enough panels to get comped, but being local of course the whole family came, and those I had to pay for. Not that any of them showed up at any of my panels, but they had a good time anyway. Or perhaps because. 😉 Maybe you can make it next year. (BTW, I heard 2nd hand that Editor GOH next year is Gardner Dozois and Writer GOH is Vernor Vinge. Subject to change until I hear that through official channels, mind.

And Brad, I hear a big congrats to you is in order for a third Analog sale! Well done!

Yup, the most improbable of my three Analog sales too. Stan truly surprised me with this one. I am tickled and mystified at the same time. As for next year, if I start planning now, perhaps I can get finances and schedule both aligned? It would be fun to see you and see what the Denver skiffy community is like. Your panel sounds like something I definitely would have liked to attend.
