Science fiction detective stories

Published by at 7:24 pm under Uncategorized

Reader John Murphy, in a comment to my page on Neutron Star as detective fiction, asks about anthologies of SF detective fiction other than single-author collections. While I can think of several of the former, for multiple authors only Dann and Dozois’s anthology Future Crimes comes immediately to mind.

I’m sure there are others; I vaguely remember at least one collection of science-fictiony Sherlock Holmes stories. Any suggestions?

There’s been more activity in this thread, although still coming up with more SF detective fiction novels than story collections. It may be that, unless you have a series and can reuse the main character and setting, a good SF detective story just takes too much setup to do easily in short form.

The thread is also showing up a deficiency in this web site design — you can’t tell that there’s new activity in one of the threads off the main page unless you go there. I’ll have to look at adding some kind of “recent messages” link or indicator.
