CAL book sale this weekend

Published by under Conventions,T-Space

The Colorado Authors League is again part of the Colorado Country Christmas Gift Show this year. It is this weekend (Nov 1-3) at the Denver Mart (I-25 & 58th). My books (trade paperback) will be on sale at discounted prices, even bigger discounts if you buy multiples. Use the coupon at right (click on the image for full size) for discounted entry to the show (there will be a lots more going on than just books, but lots of books.) (NB there is a similar show in Colorado Springs the following weekend, but my books will not be available there.)

All books are signed, but I will be happy to personalize them; I’m there from 12noon to 2pm on Fri, Nov 1 and 3pm to 8pm on Saturday the 2nd. I will also be there sometime before closing (5pm) on Sunday as I’m part of the tear-down crew.

MileHiCon 51

Published by under Conventions

MileHiCon 51 bannerIt’s October, and that means it’s time for MileHiCon, the Denver regional science-fiction convention. As usual, it will be at the Denver Tech Center Hyatt-Regency hotel. This, its 51th, is the weekend of October 18-20. I will be there for the weekend, including panels Friday afternoon and Saturday and the mass autographing Saturday afternoon. I’ll also have books at one of the author tables in the lobby. Find me and say “hi”.

Also coming up, November 1-3, is the Colorado Christmas Gift Show, which will have a booth for the Colorado Authors’ League (CAL). My books, as well as those of other Colorado authors, will be available. (I will be at the booth for a couple of shifts, I don’t know exactly when.) The Show is the weekend of November 1-3 at the Denver Merchandise Mart.

MALCon is coming, and more

Published by under Conventions,T-Space,Writing

The seventh Denver area Myths & Legends Convention (MALCon) is coming up, August 9-11 at the Radisson Denver-Aurora. I will be on a bunch of panels, mostly on the Saturday (along with autographing sessions) and one Sunday. It should be a lot of fun. If you’re in the area, come on out. I may have a few giveaways at my presentations.

Also, number four in the Carson & Roberts archeology series, The Centauri Surprise is available now for pre-order. Release date is August 20. It turns out Rico is alive, although he’s not sure just where; Carson finally gets to talk to Peter Finley (you may remember him from Alpha Centauri: Sawyer’s World — he’s not dead yet) about “Pete’s Peak”; and Homeworld Security is getting increasingly nervous about the Velkaryans.

Spikecon, and Carson & Roberts refresh

Published by under Conventions,T-Space,Writing

I’ll be heading to Spikecon in Layton, Utah, for a prolonged July 4th weekend. I have panels on Thursday and Friday, check the online schedule.

Today also marks the beginning of the refresh of my Carson & Roberts archeology adventures in T-Space. The three existing novels are getting all new covers, plus an edit pass to clean up a few typos but mostly to remove some British usage in the language that was inconsistent with my later novels. The e-books are being re-released first, starting with The Chara Talisman with new paper editions coming later in July. Also coming in July will be The Centauri Surprise, (currently in edit), which follows The Eridani Convergence, and then The Pavonis Insurgence.

Above, samples of the new covers.

UPDATE: The updated versions are all now live. Click the images for links to the books’ pages on Amazon. The Centauri Surprise is now available for pre-order.

Starfest 2019

Published by under Conventions,T-Space

Denver Starfest 2019 is coming up this weekend, April 26-28. Guests of Honor include William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols of Star Trek fame, Ben Browder of Farscape and Stargate: SG-1 and many others. But best of all, I’ll be there, in Author Alley. (Okay, maybe I don’t quite compete with the likes of the above.) There’ll be lots of other things to see and do, too.

The fellow, er, robot on the right there has attended many a Starfest. You may remember him from the original Lost In Space TV series. He (rather, a look-alike) also shows up in my upcoming The Centauri Surprise, for perfectly logical in-story reasons.

I will have copies of my books for sale, maybe a few giveaways, and I don’t charge for autographs. See you there?

(So which was your favorite Lost In Space? The 60s TV version, the feature film, or the Netflix remake? Or maybe the original comic book, aka “Space Family Robinson”?)

Upcoming events – MileHiCon 50, CAL book sale

Published by under Conventions,T-Space,Writing

It’s that time again. MileHiCon, the Denver regional science-fiction convention, at the Denver Tech Center Hyatt-Regency hotel is celebrating its 50th the weekend of October 19-21. MileHiCon 50 logo I will be there for the weekend, including panels Friday afternoon and Saturday evening and the mass autographing Saturday afternoon. I’ll also have books at one of the author tables in the lobby. Find me and say “hi”.

The Colorado Christmas Gift Show will have a booth for the Colorado Authors’ League (CAL), which will have my books available. (I’ll also be at the booth for a couple of shifts, I don’t know exactly when.) The Show is the weekend of November 2-4 at the Denver Merchandise Mart.

I’m into the final editing stage for the Kakuloa book. This will be the first of three: Kakuloa: A Rising Tide, Kakuloa: The Downhill Slide and Kakuloa: Revivified (that last title may change). These span the gap between the Alpha Centauri series (you can think of them as books 4, 5 and 6 in that series, although the original characters make only minor appearances, if any) and The Chara Talisman. I can’t promise it for either of the above events, but I’m hoping. Definitely by December. And the next Carson & Roberts is in progress too.

Presenting at Westercon

Published by under Conventions,T-Space,Writing

Westercon 71 PostcardI’ve been invited to give a science-track presentation at this year’s Westercon (Denver, July 4-8). They asked for a topic, so I proposed The Science of T-Space (blurbed as “Terraforming and warp drives and fusion power, oh my! What’s the real science behind Alastair Mayer’s T-Space series?”), which they accepted. This gives me a chance to talk about some of the stuff I didn’t want to just info-dump in the stories (grin).

The current schedule has me on at 4pm on Thursday, July 5. I realize that won’t work out (either time or location) for some of you, but if you can make it, I’d love to see you there. My plan is to cover some of the key topics and then throw it open to questions. Speaking of, if you have questions about the background of T-Space, go ahead and post them below. I’ll answer them here, and also see about working it into my presentation.

If it works out, I’ll pitch the idea to MileHiCon for October (it may be a tough sell; this year is MHC’s 50th anniversary, and there will be a lot of guests, including many previous guests of honor.)

I’ll be around at Westercon for the whole very long weekend. Currently I’m not planning on having a sales table. StarFest worked out alright but I’d rather attend the events. If you’re going to be there, check out the schedule, I may be on other panels.

MileHiCon 49, and book promos!

Published by under Conventions,T-Space,Writing

It’s the weekend for MileHiCon, the Denver regional science-fiction convention, at the Denver Tech Center Hyatt-Regency hotel.
I will be there for the weekend, including panels Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, and the mass autographing Saturday afternoon. Find me and say “hi”.

My books will be available on sale at Robert Williscroft’s table (his books include Operation Ivy Bells, The Starchild Compact and Slingshot; if you like my stuff, you’ll probably like his.)

And for those who can’t make it, there are two Amazon promotions running. From Friday through Sunday, the ebook of Alpha Centauri: First Landing is free. The second volume, Alpha Centauri: Sawyer’s World will be on a “price countdown” (where the price starts low (99 cents) and increases over the next several days) from midnight Saturday (01:00 am Sunday 10/29 Mountain time) through the week, going back to full price next Saturday (11/4). Buy early! 😉 This is also a great opportunity to promote First Landing to your friends who might like it. Amazon lets you buy an ebook as a gift and they’ll mail a redemption code to your designated recipient; I assume that will also work for this price promotion.

And The Eridani Convergence is almost ready for release. I hope to have it available for pre-order in a week or so.
