p Eridani

P Eridani (note, the first letter is lowercase roman P, not the greek letter rho) is 26.6 ly from Sol, but much closer to several other stars mentioned in T-Space, including Delta Pavonis. A double star, with both components being K-type (K0-3 and K2-5), with a reasonably distant habitable zone (similar to Alpha Centauri B, a K1).

The stars are in a mutually elliptical 484 Earth-year orbit, ranging from 29.7 AU to 97.7 AU. This is sufficiently far apart that both stars have stable orbits beyond their habitable zones. There is some spectroscopic evidence that p Eridani B has a companion (p Eridani Bb) but no parameters are established for it.

Other designations include HR 487 and Gliese 66.

Fiction

The star is of strategic interest because of its relative proximity to several other interesting stars, and distance from Sol. Mentioned in The Eridani Convergence as having "a small outpost", although that information may have been outdated.
